Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Foundations

Understand. Reflect. Act.

Why You Need It

Inequality doesn’t just happen — it’s built into systems, practices, and everyday interactions. Who gets heard, who gets promoted, and who feels welcome are all shaped by unseen forces of power, privilege, and bias. Inclusion doesn’t happen by accident — it requires awareness, courage, and action.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Foundations equips you to see how these forces play out, understand your own influence, and take concrete steps to create workplaces and communities where everyone belongs. In just over an hour, you’ll gain the knowledge, tools, and confidence to turn awareness into impact — because inclusion isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we create.

We’ll Teach You

By the end of this course, you won’t just understand the concepts — you’ll be ready to put them into practice and make a real impact. You’ll:

  • Understand the language of inclusion. Learn the differences between diversity, equity, equality, inclusion, belonging, and intersectionality — and why these distinctions matter in everyday life and work.
  • See inclusion in action. Explore practical examples of what inclusive workplaces and communities look like, and how you can help create them.
  • Reflect on your own power and privilege. Understand how your experiences, identity, and influence shape interactions and decisions, and learn how to act responsibly.
  • Build confidence to engage. Develop the courage to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and raise inclusion in situations where it might feel uncomfortable.
  • Take meaningful action. Access practical strategies and tools to foster empathy, respect, and celebration of diversity — creating a culture where everyone feels they belong.

"An excellent course and a real eye opener. Very grateful to have taken the course."

What's In It

Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours

  • Lesson 1: Why is diversity and inclusion so important?

We start with the big picture. This module explores why DEI isn’t just a “nice to have” but essential for justice, innovation, wellbeing, and organisational success. You’ll learn how diverse and inclusive environments benefit individuals, teams, and society at large.

  • Lesson 2: Getting your mindset right – Inclusion principles

Inclusion starts with how we see and approach the world. This module introduces the guiding principles that underpin inclusive practice. You’ll learn how shifting your mindset lays the foundation for meaningful change.

  • Lesson 3: Definitions and concepts

Unpacking diversity, inclusion, equity, equality, belonging and more. These words are often used interchangeably, but they mean different things. Here, we’ll break down key DEI concepts in clear, practical terms, and show how they connect. By the end, you’ll not only know the language but also understand how to use it confidently and meaningfully.

  • Lesson 4: Understanding your own power, privilege and intersectionality

We all move through the world with different layers of identity, privilege, and disadvantage. This module helps you reflect on your own position and its impact. Through an interactive privilege walk, you’ll deepen your awareness of how power and intersectionality shape experiences — and what that means for inclusion.

  • Lesson 5: Inclusion in action

The final module is all about turning knowledge into practice. You’ll explore how to create inclusive environments through everyday actions, leadership, and systemic change and leave equipped to take intentional steps towards equity and belonging in your context.
