Rante-rante ampe Marle and Urreye (Safe, Respected and Free from Violence) Evaluation Report and Summary
This report shares insights from the Channels of Hope for Gender (CoHG) project in Lajamanu, a remote Warlpiri community in the Northern Territory. Originally developed in South Africa, CoHG builds the capacity of faith leaders and communities to work together to prevent domestic and family violence, using a strengths-based, culturally grounded approach.
In Lajamanu, the project draws on both Christian faith and Warlpiri culture to raise awareness, shift attitudes, and strengthen local leadership in preventing violence. Equality Institute was engaged by World Vision Australia to support capacity building and monitoring, bringing research expertise and the Hopeful, Together, Strong framework to help guide good practice.
This report outlines the principles underpinning effective prevention, reflects on the community’s achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, and explores community-driven indicators of change. It offers valuable insights for those interested in community-led, faith-informed, and culturally responsive approaches to preventing violence.
The land we live and work on always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge the ongoing leadership role of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities in preventing violence against women. We also acknowledge Traditional Custodians of the lands where EQI works around the world.
