We Are All Created Equal: Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls in Fiji’s Faith Settings Policy Brief

We Are All Created Equal documents the journey of House of Sarah — a Suva-based Anglican ministry — in preventing and responding to violence against women and girls (VAWG) through faith in Fiji and across the Pacific. Co-created by House of Sarah, Equality Institute, and UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office (MCO), the paper captures more than a decade of experience, lessons, and promising practices from working in faith settings.

The paper is part of the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls, a regional initiative funded by the European Union and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, alongside UN Women. It highlights the critical role of faith in shaping communities and relationships, and its potential as a powerful setting for preventing VAWG. By centring the voices and leadership of House of Sarah, the resource offers inspiration and practical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and faith-based organisations globally.

As one of the few documented examples of faith-based approaches to ending VAWG in the Pacific, this work makes an important contribution to global evidence on what works to prevent violence in diverse cultural and religious contexts.

The land we live and work on always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge the ongoing leadership role of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities in preventing violence against women. We also acknowledge Traditional Custodians of the lands where EQI works around the world.
