Rante-rante ampe Marle and Urreye (Safe, Respected and Free from Violence) Evaluation Report and Summary
This report, commissioned by eSafety and conducted by the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research at ANU, explores the experiences and impacts of technology-facilitated abuse (TFA) among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in remote and regional Australia.
Drawing on qualitative research in Central Australia, remote Western Australia and regional NSW, it addresses a critical gap in understanding how Indigenous women experience online abuse. Findings show that TFA against Indigenous women is widespread, varied, and has serious, long-lasting impacts, with limited awareness among both women and frontline workers.
The report highlights the urgent need to raise awareness, improve prevention and reporting pathways, and ensure responses are centred on the safety of women and children, while accounting for the unique challenges Indigenous women face in these contexts.
The land we live and work on always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge the ongoing leadership role of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities in preventing violence against women. We also acknowledge Traditional Custodians of the lands where EQI works around the world.
