Building the World’s First Global Shared Research Agenda on VAWG and Adapting It Regionally for Greater Impact

Counting on Change: A Guide to Prevention Monitoring is a practical guide for policy-makers, researchers, and advocates on tracking population-level progress in preventing violence against women and their children in Australia. Developed by Our Watch in collaboration with Equality Institute, the guide builds on the strong evidence base of effective prevention initiatives, providing methods to measure short-, medium-, and long-term change across the population.
The guide is a world-first in identifying indicators for the drivers and reinforcing factors of violence against women. It offers clear guidance on available data sources, how to collect and analyse information, and how to create a comprehensive “picture of progress.” By doing so, it supports governments, organisations, and advocates to understand whether prevention efforts are leading to meaningful societal change, and to inform evidence-based policy and practice at a national scale.
The land we live and work on always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge the ongoing leadership role of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities in preventing violence against women. We also acknowledge Traditional Custodians of the lands where EQI works around the world.
