Building the World’s First Global Shared Research Agenda on VAWG and Adapting It Regionally for Greater Impact
This document presents key research priorities related to violence against women and children in Australia and globally, based on a comparative analysis of Australia’s National Research Agenda to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children (ANRA 2020–2022) and the Global Shared Research Agenda (GSRA) for low- and middle-income countries. Despite being developed through separate processes, the two agendas show strong alignment, highlighting common gaps and priority areas where research efforts and resources should be directed. The mapping also draws lessons from the agenda-setting processes to inform future strategies for identifying research gaps and establishing collective priorities.
The document is intended for researchers, funders, practitioners, and policymakers, providing guidance for research planning, resourcing, and advocacy. It offers a reference point for situating individual research projects within broader national and international priorities, ensuring that work in the field contributes to evidence-based strategies for preventing violence against women and children.
By comparing national and global research priorities, the report emphasises the importance of collaborative, rigorous, and inclusive processes in setting agendas, supporting coordinated action, and strengthening the evidence base for policy, practice, and funding decisions.
The land we live and work on always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and acknowledge the ongoing leadership role of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities in preventing violence against women. We also acknowledge Traditional Custodians of the lands where EQI works around the world.
